Any parents concerned about their children getting their ‘five-a-day’ need not worry – thanks to a special pizza which has been developed by an award-winning Worcester chef.

Felice Tocchini, of Fusion Brasserie, has created both sweet and savoury versions of the new ‘five-a-day pizza’, which he hopes will encourage youngsters to choose healthier options.

The pizza was unveiled at his Worcester restaurant on Monday, July 12 ahead of Taste of Birmingham, taking place between July 16 – 18, where the Italian will be showcasing his culinary talents and working with local children to develop their own healthy pizza.

“There is always negative publicity around fast food but I want to help dispel the myth that pizza is always bad for you,” said Felice.

“If we can incorporate more fruit and vegetables into everyday life, it can only benefit the health of future generations.

“I have created both a savoury and sweet version of the pizza, which shows that fresh produce can be delicious as well as having all of the nutritional benefits.”

Felice believes strongly in the importance of locally-sourced produce and purchases as much food as possible from West Midlands-based suppliers.

The Italian is no stranger to creating healthy and innovative food ideas, having previously developed the ‘sprouty cake’ – also aimed at encouraging children to eat more vegetables – and the Worcester dunker, a ground-breaking biscuit which doesn’t fall apart when dunked in a hot drink.

Now in its fifth year, Taste of Birmingham is one of the city’s biggest and best attractions; combining international cuisine, local talent and fresh produce. It takes place in Cannon Hill Park in Birmingham from Friday, July 16 to Sunday, July 18.
